Alaska has so much to offer it was an amazing experience that I wish everyone could experience. Alaska is a state in the Western United States on the northwest extremity of North America that borders Canada. It is the biggest state to be a part of the United States and is the home of the highest Mountain in North America, Mt. Denali.
Alaska is a literal breath of fresh air, if you are looking for an escape to somewhere that puts you at peace this is the place for you. With beautiful views that make you feel like you are in a national geographic book. With so much wildlife like whales in the summer, seals, sea lions, mooses, bears, and of course the bald eagle. There are numerous tours and activities to do in each wonderful city.
I went to Alaska in 2016 on a cruise ship from Vancouver, Canada. I was in Alaska for 14 days seeing as much as it had to offer in a total of 8 cities. From Canada the first stop was Ketchikan then, Juneau, Skagway, Seaward, Anchorage. Then on to our land trip starting in Anchorage to Talkeetna, Denali, Fairbanks and lastly to North Pole, Alaska.
All those places were beautiful and had some of their own things to offer but I will focus on the top three cities that you can do mostly everything in. If you are on a budget or on a timely vacation these three will be your top choices to see as much as possible. Fourteen days is not ideal to everyone and it’s not something that needs to be done to see all the wonderful things Alaska has to offer.
I went in the Summer which is the ideal time to go. Some days in the summer you have 24-hours of daylight, luckily curtains were invented for a good night's rest. Winter may not be the ideal time with some days being 24-hours of darkness. Summer is also a great time for seeing whales. They will migrate to Hawaii when winter comes. Daytime temperatures in Alaska during the summer time range from 60 degrees to 80 degrees, it tends to be cooler next to the water.
Traveling to Alaska makes you think you need heavy jackets and snow pants, but unless you are going up a mountain, one jacket and some sweaters for when it's cool is all you need. Many people were in shorts and T-shirts. Be sure to care around a jacket or sweater incase a cool breeze comes in. Some hiking boots are highly suggested when visiting if you are planning to do some hiking on the trails. Take comfortable shoes because you are going to be doing some or alot of walking where ever you decide to go.
